Mater Dei (CA) Wins Capitol Auto Group Division Championship on Spectacular Last-Second Shot by Fres

SALEM, OR (December 23, 2016) - The Mater Dei Crusaders (CA) won the Capitol Auto Group Division in the 2nd Annual Capitol City Classic presented by Adidas Basketball behind a sensational buzzer-beater runner by freshman sensation Beon Riley that proved to be the difference. The final score after Riley's 3-pointer was Mater Dei 53, West Salem 50.

Like their previous two games against McNary and Southridge, Mater Dei (CA) was challenged for the entire game. After West Salem won the first quarter 22-13, the Crusaders charged back to close the score to within 1 point, 32-31 at halftime.

Riley's heroics came with the score tied 50-50. After a West Salem miss, Riley launched his running 30' shot just before the clock expired and it swished through the hoop after the buzzer had sounded. Riley scored 13 points for the Crusaders.

West was led by junior wing Kyle Greeley's 25 points.

In the 3rd place game, Wilsonville beat Southridge by a convincing 59-41 margin. Senior wing Zach Reichle scored 30 points, had 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the Wildcats. Fellow senior wing Harrison Steiger contributed 13 points and sophomore guard Jack Roche had a tournament-high 10 assists. Southridge was led by 6'8 senior post Robert Hester with 12 points.

McNary beat Thurston 60-46 for 4th place, while Sprague's Teagan Quitoriano exploded for a tournament record 41 points in the Olympians' 72-52 victory over Evergreen (WA).
