The Evan Mobley update: Stay tuned!

December 21, 2019

The country's #1-ranked recruit sits out Rancho Christian's first two games at the CCC; and at this moment is still considered "day-to-day"

SALEM, OR - The Evan Mobley Watch reached day two on Friday, without the heralded basketball phenom taking the court in the Capitol City Classic.

Of course, while everybody hopes to see Mobley play in Oregon, the consensus feeling is that like with every other young man, his health should come first always.

And while everyone in Oregon would love to see him play at WU on Gordie James Court, he does not have to play in Oregon.

There are hopeful signs, though, that Mobley might be closer to playing and perhaps, maybe, could play soon rather than later.  He reportedly has seen daily improvement from the ankle sprain he suffered.  What once was a noticeable limp is all but gone.  And he has had the benefit of time, rest and treatment.

All of that is, of course, good.

While Mobley works to get back into position to play for Rancho Christian, his Eagles teammates continued to do their thing Friday, and they were impressive.  They won their quarterfinal game against Sherwood 101-68, and they had five guys in double figures led by Jayce Catchings with 23.

Seeing the Eagles full complement of players -- Mobley included -- would be a sight to behold, according to CCC Assistant Tournament Director Ben Collier.  "They are fantastic without him," said Collier, "and with him... wow, that has to be one heckuva team."

Hopefully, Oregon basketball fans will get to see that for themselves, Mobley's health permitting.

Rancho Christian will face South Salem in the CCC semifinals Saturday night at 8:00pm, while Lanier (Buford, GA) will square off with the Wilsonville Wildcats in the other semifinal at 9:30pm.
